These occur as needed to address a temporary need of your student (ex: a friend is being mean, changes in family, or a student just needs to talk). My goal is to create a safe place to work through problems.
Sometimes a student requires one-on-one counseling services in order to work through various difficulties. Topics include anger, stress management, anxiety, academic struggles, in-class behavior, low self-esteem. ( I do not conduct therapy, only solution-focused brief counseling.).
Small counseling groups give students unique opportunities to develop specific skills or to focus on a specific topic while connecting with their peers and building relationships. Small group topics are determined based on the need of the small group.
Topics include:
New Student Support
Friendship Skills
Social Skills
Managing Emotions (anger, worry, stress)
Changing Families
Self-Control
Mindfulness
Stress Management
Building Self-Esteem
Grief Recovery
Study Skills
Conflict Resolution
Leadership/Responsibility
To reach all students, I conduct classroom counseling lessons throughout the year based on students' needs and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards. Topics include the following: creating/setting SMART goals, self care, study skills, stress management, bullying prevention, career development, and test anxiety and preparation.
Consultation with parents, students, teachers, and administrators
Crisis Intervention
Restorative Conversations
