About me

Hello, and welcome to EIS! I'm Meg Burke and this is my 19th year teaching! I've been teaching 6th grade here at EIS for 12 years. Before that, I taught 3rd and 5th grades in elementary school. I have a Master's Degree in curriculum and education as well as my California Teaching Credential. I'm not only an employee of the Etiwanda School District, I'm also a parent here! I have 2 sons who went through our district and are now in high school. My daughter is a 2nd grader still going to ESD schools and my husband works for the district as well. We keep really busy with our 3 kids' many sports, music, schooling, and other activities! We share our home with my mom and also have a cat and a dog. I love the outdoors - hiking, camping, & playing sports. I enjoy teaching and helping students reach their potential. I recognize success looks different for every student as each person comes with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skills. I adjust my instruction to best support the students I have in my class in order to help meet their individual academic needs. My job, and passion, is to help all students learn and feel success. I look forward to helping all my students grow, learn, and explore!

A/B Schedule

Rationale: Studies have shown that the time of day can impact student learning (ex: some students are morning people while others have more energy after lunch) so we want them to have equal time in each subject.

We will have an A/B schedule, where we will be alternating back and forth every-other-week. Their daily schedule and other classes will not be impacted. A Week-students begin with their Homeroom teacher. B Week-Students will begin the day with their Switch teacher & their classes, then rotate to their Homeroom teacher & their classes.

Mrs. Burke's homeroom class schedule:

A week: (begin in room C-6) 1st period Language Arts 2nd: Social Studies (rotate to D-5) 4th: Math 5th: Science

B Week: (begin in room D-5 with Ms. Krieter) 1st period: Math 2nd: Science (rotate to C-6) 4th: Language Arts 5th: Social Studies

Ms. Krieter's homeroom class schedule:

Elective: Geometric Art

Geometric Art: this class focuses on creating works of art using math skills.

  • Projects - typically 1 each week

  • Scores are given based on following the directions for the math portion of the project AND the art portion. Students are given the entirety of the class (typically 6 weeks) to complete their projects. I do not penalize scores for work completed late.

  • All projects stay in class in students’ portfolios until they are completed.

  • Completed projects are displayed in the classroom

  • **although an incomplete project may show as “missing” in the Aeries grade-book, I give students until the last day of elective to complete each project. On the last day, l will input scores based on % completed for any projects that are still incomplete. Parents please try NOT to worry about your child’s missing assignments unless a specific comment in Aeries states that they are behind on their projects.

  • Direct, guided, and individualized instruction will be provided in class for each project

  • All materials are provided, but students may choose to bring their own supplies to class
