Government Elective

Content: Students enrolled in Mr. Parker's Government elective class will study the constitutional principles that form the foundation for the U.S. government, including the protection of individual rights, republicanism, rule of law, popular sovereignty, limited government, checks and balances, separation of powers, and federalism. They will learn why these principles continue to be important to our body politic.

Assignments: Students will complete most assignments in a paper packet that they are issued the first day of class. This packet is kept in the classroom and updated as we complete lessons. There are a handful other written assignments and a couple of quizzes that arise, however, the bulk of their grade will be based on the packet and participation in classroom simulations.

About Mr. Parker

I graduated from Cal State Stanislaus with a bachelor's degree in Social Science and later received my Masters in Education Administration degree from Cal State San Bernardino.

The 2024-2025 school year is my 22nd year teaching and my 21st in the district, all the time here at EIS. I love sports, reading about history and political science, and going to plays. I love the outdoors and volunteer as a Scout leader with a local troop.

My wife and I, both natives of northern California (home of Giants baseball and 49ers football!) and are blessed to have two sons. We love the outdoors, especially Lake Tahoe.

I lived in the Philippines for two years and speak a language called Cebuano/Visayan. The kids will periodically hear me lapse into that tongue. :-)

My mission for the class?

We are looking past this year to a time when you will all enter a cutting-edge workforce equipped with the knowledge and skills to contribute to the benefit of this world. We will learn to follow through on our obligations, to work with peers, and to push ourselves a little bit farther each day than we did the day before. You can do hard things – I know it.

Personal aside: no one hates social studies - just social studies books. I hope you walk out of my class next spring with a keen interest in humanity's exhilarating story.
